Summarizing The Big Picture SLP’s trip to ASHA 2023!

For many speech-language pathologists (SLPs), the prospect of conducting augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessments can be daunting, especially for graduate students entering the field. As someone often invited to share insights into the AAC assessment process, I understand the anxiety and trepidation accompanying this crucial aspect of our profession.

Ensuring children have strong language skills sets a stronger foundation for academics, literacy, social-emotional skills, and so much more.

We’re training Speech-Language Pathologists to make evidence-based decisions. We’re learning how to write our own goals instead of using goals written by others, for others.

When your first article gets published in a respected journal in your field, it’s a very big deal. For me, it was a critical reminder that we need to give speech-language pathologists a voice and we need to share that voice.
